Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) is a latest-generation retinoid — an ester derivative of retinoic acid that acts directly on the skin's retinoid receptors without the need for metabolic conversion. Unlike classic retinol, which must be converted into retinoic acid (a multi-step process that is taxing for the skin), HPR works immediately, so it does not cause flaking, irritation or sun sensitivity. It stimulates collagen production, accelerates cell renewal, and reduces wrinkles, discolouration and signs of photoaging. It achieves efficacy comparable to retinol with far better tolerance — making it ideal for sensitive, dry skin and for those just starting out with retinoids. Glycolic acid is the smallest and most active of the AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids) group — thanks to its low molecular weight, it penetrates deep into the layers of the epidermis. Derived from sugar cane, it works by loosening the bonds between dead corneocytes, initiating the process of chemical exfoliation. It stimulates the synthesis of new collagen and accelerates cell renewal, thereby smoothing wrinkles, reducing hyperpigmentation, and improving skin texture. It effectively unclogs pores, reducing imperfections and blackheads, which is why it works well in the care of oily, problematic skin and skin with signs of photoaging. It requires the use of an SPF cream — it increases the skin's sensitivity to UV radiation.

Diacetyl Boldine is a synthetic active ingredient derived from boldo tree (Peumus boldus) extracts, with strong brightening and antioxidant action. It works by selectively inhibiting tyrosinase — the enzyme responsible for melanin synthesis in melanocytes — without the cytotoxic effect seen with hydroquinone. It effectively reduces sun spots, melasma, age spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). It also acts as an antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radicals and preventing the formation of new discolouration. An ideal ingredient for skin with hyperpigmentation and photoaging, and for those seeking a safe alternative to aggressive brightening methods — used, among others, in Christina's Illustrious line.

Mechanism of action

It selectively inhibits tyrosinase activity in melanocytes (IC50 ~0.3 mM) without a cytotoxic effect. It does not inhibit melanocyte proliferation (unlike hydroquinone).
